When I got up this morning, I went in the kitchen and dumped the jars of turkey stock that didn’t seal into a crockpot with a pint of carrots and a pint of turkey. Then I dumped in a bag of egg noodles and turned it on low. I added some rosemary and parsley we had grown and I dried. Tadah. Homemade soup in literally three minutes.
For breakfast I made toast and generously applied strawberry jam. If you are still eating store bought jam I am so sorry because it cannot hold a candle to homemade jam. Ooooomygoodness.
The rest of the day I worked, and not on fun homesteading stuff. I graded essays and did MBA work and created a presentation for tomorrow night’s writing course. I posted announcements and wrote lesson plans. I also played on Pinterest (you can follow me here if you like) and made some changes to the blog. Whew.
Then it was time for supper, so I had some of the soup and a sandwhich. I cooked three of the chicken eggs in a pan and had that on toasted bread with some hot pepper mustard I made. Oh and I made a cake. It is so yummy. It is essentialy just a yellow cake but I added a quart of my canned apples, which I canned in syrup with cinnamon. I opened the jar and let it pulse in the blender for a beat or two and then added to the cake batter. In the past, I’ve made it with cream cheese frosting, but I didn’t have any, so I just sprinkled some powdered sugar on top. It is SO good.
I love having lots of foods and spices in the house. It means options. You can add so many things together and make a yummy, different meal every time.
Off to sleep off this yummy dinner.
